Mersa Media Institute (MMI) and DW Akademie are partnering to provide media training packages with the goal to produce the next generation of digital storytellers, platform developers, and marketing professionals for the Ethiopian media market (established and startup). To this end, MMI is positioning itself to become a training provider in media and journalism education in Ethiopia and preparation works are underway to deliver hands-on and demand-
specific training to fresh graduates, career transition prospectors, practicing journalists as well as editors with the goal of improving the quality of content delivered to the public. The two organizations are also collaborating in facilitating dialogues on a multitude of issues that highlight the needs and interests of the youth through an innovative multi-media dialogue format. In this regard, Mersa Media Institute plans to design a monitoring and evaluation system as it
embarks on these engagements that are critically important to the youth and media sector in Ethiopia. Thus, the purpose of this consultancy is to coach MMI’s staff on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and develop a monitoring and evaluation system for the projects running
around Media and Journalism Education (MJE) as well as Innovation for Dialogue (I4D). The result-oriented M&E system will be closely developed with MMI and DW Akademie, following some general project-related indicators.
Scope of work
This engagement requires preparation works, assessing best experiences on M&E, and formulating lessons as input to this engagement. This mainly includes:
a) In consultation with MMI and our partner DW Akademie, produce an inception report detailing your approach to setting up an M&E system.
b) Develop a result-driven M&E system for MJE and I4D projects, following existing indicators, including a monitoring (data collection) plan.
c) Prepare and deliver training and coaching sessions for MMI staff on the M&E system, data collection, and report writing.
d) Other related tasks (subject to prior agreement)
Who can apply?
Ethiopian M&E experts that bring experience and knowledge in the field and who will be incharge of developing and maintaining a result-oriented monitoring and evaluation system for the above two projects and training MMI’s staff on M&E. The engagement of the expert spans from
December 19, 2022, to February 21, 2023.
We would love to hear from you if you:
– Have proven experience in developing M&E systems for startups and established organizations, including NGOs
– Have well-grounded knowledge and experience in preparing and delivering training on M&E.
– Have a reliable internet connection for remote work during briefing sessions, progress updates, and meetings as required.
– Can participate in meetings in person at the MMI office for feedback and reflections as required.
– Have good communication skills to maintain a smooth and collaborative relationship with MMI staff and the project partner.
