Organizational Profile: MERSA Media Institute is a non-profit media policy think tank. We work to help create vibrant, responsible and independent media institutions, professional unions and education centers through research, capacity building and institutional support in Ethiopia.

Position Summary: We are looking for a motivated Accounting Intern who is prepared for an intense, real-world experience and has a basic understanding of GAAP, financial principles, and terminologies. The Accounting Intern can anticipate participating in the creation of journal entries and financial reports under the supervision of our team, as well as analyzing actual financial data, learning more about bookkeeping software, and helping with other accounting tasks. You should be a driven team player who can multitask while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. To be a strong candidate for an Accounting Internship, you should possess an understanding of accounting and financial principles and a positive attitude. You should be collaborative, trustworthy, receptive to feedback, and eager to learn.

Major duties and responsibilities:

• Following Accounting department employees around while they go about their work.
• Assisting with , filing, data entry, and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records.
• Preparing financial reports, invoices, and other documents.
• Working with bookkeeping software.
• Handling sensitive or confidential information with honesty and integrity.
• Learning how to work as part of the Accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support the organization or clients.
• Taking on additional tasks or projects to learn more about accounting and office operations.

Qualifications:

• Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and be a recent graduate with  BA in Accounting from a recognized university.
• Satisfactory understanding of accounting and financial principles.
• Aptitude for math, proficiency with computers.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• High level of efficiency, accuracy, and responsibility.
• Motivation and a strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible.
